Celebrating places in Queens named for important Hispanic figures! National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 to October 15. It's a time to honor the history, traditions, and diverse contributions of Hispanic Americans whose heritage is rooted in Spain and Spanish speaking countries and territories. We recognize the power of this collective heritage to shape a vibrant, inclusive future for all through music, art, literature, activism and shared stories. Barbara Guzzardo (b. 1952) a Glendale resident and Cuban immigrant, worked for Aon Corporation at the World Trade Center. Guzzardo came to America when she was five years old and taught herself English, working her way through high school and college. She was killed in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.
