Manuel Mojica Jr. (1964 – 2001) loved being a New York City firefighter and worked at Manhattan’s Squad 18 at the time of his death during the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. Mojica grew up in the Ravenswood Houses and Queensview Co-op in Long Island City, he married and moved to Bellmore, L.I. and started a family. Mojica's nickname was “Manny Mo,” he loved going to the gym and riding his Harley. In addition to 11 years with the Fire Department, Mojica was a decorated Marine.

Twenty-five years later, we honor the Queens residents, first responders, workers, and volunteers who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, or died from 9/11-related illnesses. Each lived in or shared a deep connection with Queens, and many are remembered through local memorial sites and co-named streets featured here on the Queens Name Explorer. On this page, we remember those lost from the following neighborhoods: Astoria, Hunters Point, Long Island City, Maspeth, Steinway, Sunnyside and Woodside.
