Thomas Joseph Shubert (1958-2001) was an international trader who died in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001, at the age of 43. Born in Jackson Heights on February 4, 1958, he attended P.S. 27 for several years before entering St. Fidelis Elementary School in College Point. He was an active young man in soccer, Little League, as well as the bowling league every Saturday at the old College Lanes. He graduated from Flushing High School.
His commitment to a solid work ethic propelled him into the business world and Wall Street. He landed a job with the commercial bank, Irving Trust, and later with the financial services firm, Cantor Fitzgerald, where he was working as an Assistant Vice President Equities Trader on the 104th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center on the day of the terror attacks.
A resident of Eastchester, New York, he was married to Diane Rodriguez of Corona and was blessed with a precious daughter named Renee. The intersection of 11th Avenue and 127th Street, located in his childhood neighborhood of College Point, is named in his honor. The sign on the southeast corner reads “Thomas J. Shubert Avenue 9-11-01.”
